AU History: Feel free to delete if not applicable.
Personality:
Erichthonios is a relatively young man (considering he comes from people that can live millennia) and known to be very emotional by his kin's standards. We get to know him through a relatively short story, the Pandaemonium raid series, and we see him in his workplace dealing with a big mess that puts him, his coworkers and at least the nearby research facility in danger.
One of the first things we notice about him, it's that he's devout to his people almost to a fault. The first time we meet Erichthonios he's transformed in a his True Self (A monster form) and completely lost track of what's happening around himself. He attacks the protagonist blindly and his only motivation during this? Protecting his coworkers from a threat he doesn't quite understand. Once he calms down? He's still devoted to his coworkers and chooses to stay and try to fix what's going on inside the Pandaemonium instead of moving to a more secure location. Even when Lahabrea, member of the convocation (and his father), tells him the safest solution is to leave the facility behind and lock it away where it can do no harm, he steps up and argues very loudly in the name of those he considers important
He's a hard worker, too, often choosing not to rest and prioritize his duties. He's overall kind, even if prone to burst of anger, and even if it took time for him to do so... he made peace with being the Average Joe of his world.
Erichthonios is also quite fond of studying new things and teaching others. Themis mentions it directly in a dialogue ingame that despite Erich's inability to use internment magicks, his knowledge of the theory behind it is impeccable, and he still works full time as researcher despite his many limitations.
We also have to bring up he's a rather optimistic person: no matter how dark things turn, he always seem to have a sliver of hope to cling to. When the Pandaemonium is falling apart, he doesn't give up on the hope of saving his coworkers. When the Final Days are destroying everything he holds dear he entrusts the Pandaemonium to his future incarnations and doesn't give up the hope that someday a certain 'warrior' or someone like them will show up again and save everyone once more. Even the Erichthonios shaped mammet says holding it 'keeps the spark of hope alive' and it does mention Erich's unyielding sense of duty. He's not stupid, mind you, he can accept that the world isn't good and he doesn't cling to false hopes, but he also attempts to see the bright side in things even when the situation is dire.
Not all is perfect, mind you, he does have a few big negative traits. Erich can be a rather resentful person: While it's difficult to actually make him angry in most situations, if he thinks he's been wronged far too much he'll struggle to accept a certain person around him and may even antagonize them even if it's against their best interest. The most blatant example we have is Erich's relationship with his father early on: calling it rocky is an understatement and for most of their story we see them struggle to reconcile with each other with things 'getting better' only right before the end of the world as they knew it.
He's also rather emotional, which isn't always a 'good' thing by Ancient standards. There isn't much to say about this: he's emotional for Ancient standards, something stated by Elidibus himself (The man seems especially confused by how much Erichthonios is attached to his parents, something that wasn't normal back in their days.). He is driven by emotions and dreams, even choosing the least practical approach on how to handle the issues inside the Pandaemonium instead of putting the safety of the Star above anything else as he's supposed to do. His inner turmoil and resentment are what allowed Hepaistos to control him, too. And even if we can assume most of his affection toward his mother Athena was imprinted with experiments and such by the woman herself... well, by the very end of his story he's still giving her a small chance to redeem herself before locking his heart and bringing her down with himself.
It is also hinted his true strength, magically speaking, is tied to his feelings instead of logic and reason like it is for the rest of his people. The three times we see him using *any* power at all he's driven by strong emotions that get him to overcome his limits. Erichthonios also allows his very low self esteem to get in the way of the things he does.
He also struggles with dealing with the world outside his small facility. It's heavily hinted the boy never left his facility until right before the Final Days and when he did it was just to work and study under his father. He knows a lot about magicks, aether, souls and all those things that are part of the basic knowledge of his world, but at the same time his knowledge of anything that lies outside the Pandaemonium is minimal at best. A lot of things may fly over his head and I may be inclined to use this for comedic reasons if possible.
Powers and Abilities:
- He canonically can summon chains out of thin air. He uses them to chain creatures and people.
- He can use internment magicks to imprison creatures in a relatively 'safe' way, turning them into crystals (As he does with Hepaistos). He usually needs someone to give him his world's mana equivalent (Aether) to use this kind of spells, though, even if once he managed to do it all on his own.
- He can 'technically' turn into a giant creature wielding cold and fire spells to his own advantage + he can use the many chains that cover his monstrous body as weapons. It's... something that he doesn't seem to be usually able to do, though, and was probably only triggered by the spells of the villain taking over the facility where he was born and raised.
- He is a researcher. He is extremely good at learning new things and he comes with a good understanding of science, medicine and an excellent level of knowledge about biology (especially when tied with fauna). He may struggle a bit catching up with a different setting, considering their science is based on what is basically an extra-elemental wheel and aether isn't at the base of all creation in other worlds.
Inventory:
- His clothes, aka a long black robe and a belt with some crystals attached to it. The belt was a present from his dad.
- A mammet of his best friend Themis. The little doll is programmed well enough it can almost appear 'alive' at times but it's just a tiny fancy machine.
Sample: One here? I can do a LOT more.
When presented with a choice, is the character more likely to stick with tried and true methods? Or make something new up on the fly?
It depends on the context. Is he risking to hurt someone with his actions? He may be a lot more careful with his choices. Is he the only one risking his own neck? He may be rather careless and take 'new' and not very safe approaches to solving problems.
What is more important to your character, preserving the past or forging a future?
He has seen what happens if you're too stuck in the past and his whole civilization was falling apart without much hope for a future when he was taken to the library so the answer should be rather simple: he wants people to be able to forge a better future for themselves.
How does your character influence their own story? What about the stories of others?
Erich's story is one about self acceptance, learning about friendship and gaining agency over your own life, those are the themes he'd bring to the table when interacting with other stories as well. He was born as his mother's experiment and raised by his father's coworkers after her passing, finding friendship and creating true bonds only far into his adulthood- he may still struggle with his own self esteem, but he's try to bring positive themes around and focus on how great having people you can trust and care about is.
